Jubilee 2025


  • 2025 is the Jubilee Holy Year, the 2,025th anniversary of the Incarnation of our Lord, an "event of great spiritual, ecclesial, and social significance in the life of the Church." "Jubilee" originates in the Book of Leviticus (chapter 25) as a special year of reconciliation, pilgrimage, and coming home. Pope Francis has designated the 2025 Holy Year as a time to renew ourselves as "Pilgrims of Hope.""

  • What is the Jubilee Year about?
  • The Jubilee Year is a time to renew relationships with God, each other, and creation. 
  • It's a time of hope for the world suffering from war, the COVID-19 pandemic, and climate change. 
  • It's a time for forgiveness and renewal.
  • It's a time to look to the future with hope, trust, and far-sighted vision. 

  • What will happen during the Jubilee Year?
  • Catholics are encouraged to pilgrimage to Rome or sacred sites in their local diocese.
  • There will be special celebrations for various needs and communities.
  • There will be missions, World Mission Sunday, and the Catholic Relief Services Rice Bowl. 

  • When does the Jubilee Year begin and end? 
  • The Jubilee Year officially opened on December 24, 2024, with the opening of the Holy Door of the Papal Basilica of St. Peter.
  • The year will end in Rome on January 6, 2026.

The Jubilee Prayer


Father in heaven,

may the faith you have given us

in your son, Jesus Christ, our brother,

and the flame of charity enkindled

in our hearts by the Holy Spirit,

reawaken in us the blessed hope

for the coming of your Kingdom.

May your grace transform us

into tireless cultivators of the seeds of the Gospel.


May those seeds transform from within

both humanity and the whole cosmos

in the sure expectation

of a new heaven and a new earth,

when, with the powers of Evil vanquished,

your glory will shine eternally.


May the grace of the Jubilee

reawaken in us, Pilgrims of Hope,

a yearning for the treasures of heaven.

May that same grace spread

the joy and peace of our Redeemer

throughout the earth.
